I used to think my sister and I were just two nice southern girls who’d get married in a few years and settle down to a quiet life. Then I discovered that Alina and I descend, not from good wholesome southern stock, but from an ancient Celtic bloodline of powerful sidhe-seers, people who can see the Fae. Not only can I see the terrifying otherworldly race, but I can sense the sacred Fae relics that hold the deadliest of their magic.

When my sister was found dead in a trash-filled alley in Dublin, I came over to get answers. Now all I want is revenge. And after everything I’ve learned about myself, I know I have the power to get it….

MacKayla Lane’s ordinary life underwent a complete makeover when she landed on Ireland’s shores and was plunged into a world of deadly sorcery and ancient secrets.

In her fight to stay alive, Mac must find the Sinsar Dubh–a million-year-old book of the blackest magic imaginable, which holds the key to power over both the worlds of the Fae and of Man. Pursued by Fae assassins, surrounded by mysterious figures she knows she cannot trust, Mac finds herself torn between two deadly and irresistible men: V’lane, the insatiable Fae who can turn sensual arousal into an obsession for any woman, and the ever-inscrutable Jericho Barrons, a man as alluring as he is mysterious.

For centuries the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted with that of humans. Now the walls between the two are coming down, and Mac is the only thing that stands between them.…
Warning : If you haven't read Darkfever you shouldn't read this review.

"I wanted blood, spilled for my sister. Spilled by my hand."

This quote pretty much describes Mac's state of mind in the book. She's angry with the Fae (for obvious reasons), angry with Barrons for not disclosing anything, angry with her parents for lying to her, angry with the sidhe-seers for not guiding her when she needed them.. You got the point. She's mad at everyone and it was freaking anoying.

She's going through a period of introspection, wondering what she is feeling, who she is becoming... The descriptions got the upper hands on the action. The plot progresses a little but this book feels like a filler. A lot of questions are still unanswered. Actually, I have more questions after reading it.

Luckily, Jericho Barrons saves the book. He now shows a new side but don't worry he's still sarctastic and mysterious.

The sexual tension between him and Mac is crazy. I like V'lane but I'd chose Barrons without hesitation and no second thoughts. The dialogues were on point. I love how formal their conversations seems but still nuanced with implicit meanings. If my rating was based only on that, I'd give five stars.

Like I'd said in the review for Darkfever, I have a theory : I think he's a prince of the Unseelie Court. The Shades don't touch him, he doesn't get along with V'lane, he can see the Fae and knows way too much about them. I don't think he's King though. He'd be too big (not like that, dirty mind !). Ahem, I mean I don't see a King running a bookstore and stealing things by himself, he'd have other people to do it for him right ?

"Better to be useful than liked. Like is an emotion. Emotions are like holding water. You open your hand and there's nothing there."

Needless to say, I want to know everything about him. Who did he love ? What did he lose ? Who broke him ? Aaaaah, this guy is addictive.

Now let's talk about other characters. Of course, I'd like to write a review full of Hot Barrons; Um I mean Jericho Barrons but it wouldn't be objective, right ? (Nothing is objective in your reviews, Lys...)

Anyway ! Exepct for V'lane who never seems to stop surprising me, I don't care about the others. I know some of them are going to play an important part in the serie but right now I don't feel invested at all. I don't find them particularly charismatic or interesting but I hope the third book will change my mind.

To conclude, Bloodfever is not as thrilling as Darkfever but I feel like it's essential for the rest (at least I hope so). I've read it very quickly, it didn't feel like 303 pages so I think it's a good investment. Uh oh, I'm starting to talk like Barrons.
